The 2019 Canada Winter Games are only about three months away. The eyes of the nation will be on Red Deer as they host the 2019 Canada Winter Games - the largest multi-sport and cultural event for youth in Canada and the largest event to be hosted in Red Deer’s history.
It will feature over 150 events in 19 sports and a major arts and cultural festival. With an expected 3,600 athletes, managers and coaches and more than 100,000 spectators, the 2019 Games are set to provide a stage for Canada’s next generation of national, international and Olympic champions to compete and will leave an athletic and leadership legacy for future generations in Red Deer and central Alberta to enjoy.

Cross country skiing has been a part of the Canada Games since the first Canada Games in 1967. River Bend Golf & Recreation Area hosts cross country skiing in week two of the 2019 Games. For full sport history and technical package, please visit the Canada Games site.

- Canada Winter Games Torch Relay
Congratulations to Alberta Games Alumni Owen Pimm from Red Deer, who was selected to represent Alberta Athletes at the Canada Games Torch lighting ceremony.
Owen won gold in the Juvenile Sprint in Cross Country Skiing at the 2018 Alberta Winter Games in Wood Buffalo. Owen is also a member of the 2019 Canada Games Athletes Advisory Committee.
