Program Overview:

The intent of this program is to build greater competitive participation from within Alberta for Provincial and Western-Canada based events. At the upper end of the development pyramid participation at National-level events will be the focus A targeted outcome is an increase in the number of Alberta athletes at Provincial events (AB Cups and Provincials) and Western Canadians.

Objectives of Provincial Camps:

  1. Provide training and educational environment for athletes striving towards higher levels; opportunity for development-level athletes to train together
  2. Provide opportunity for club coaches to learn and gain experience working with higher level coaches (Club and National Program)
  3. For older athletes, incorporate common testing and monitoring (aerobic, strength and flexibility) opportunities.
  4. Social and motivational interaction of athletes and coaches.
  5. Support athletes with limited coaching support.

Coaching:

Cross Country Alberta will ensure that all coaches working at all camps included in this program will be 3M NCCP certified with at least one coach being a minimum of Level 2 NCCP certified. The target athlete to coach ratio will be 6:1. Where live-in options are available, appropriate coaching or chaperone / camp manager supervision will be present.

To allow for a fair and equitable distribution of camp coaching opportunities CCA is opening up all camps to coaches of the athletes attending. As such the final list of coaches working at each camp will not be certain until after the athletes have signed up for the camp(s). CCA will assign a coach (or two) to each camp as the key camp facilitator. The CCA Board, or designated committee, will assign the Head Coaching position as well as any developmental level coaching positions as they deem appropriate.

2001 Alberta Regional Camps

  3. Bring coaches and leaders in a region together to:
    • Share ideas and coaching methods, and
